Not Fair!
This is so unfair! A son of Scotland gets very depressed when he finds out these other people (link, link) have figured out how to turn his daily after work recreation into research! Maybe the Phactor just has to admit that some people are more clever, more creative. Has it ever been mentioned that the fruit of the nutmeg, of little use to most people, is made into a singularly deleterious alcoholic beverage in Grenada? Maybe they'll need my expertise some day.

What a thoughtful and useful link! Actually the Phactor is a bourbon drinker for half the year and his favorite cocktail recently has been an Old Fashioned (as served at the Girl & the Goat) basically bourbon on the rocks with 3-4 dashes of orange bitters, a bit of simple syrup if you like it sweet, and a twist of orange peel.
But here's a lovely cocktail with more of an Italian flavor - an Aperol cocktail.
2 ounces Aperol
1 ounce gin
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 ounce simple syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
Twist of orange peel
Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add the Aperol, gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and bitters. Shake well, then strain into a chilled cocktail (martini) glass. Twist the orange peel over the drink to release its oils, then drop it into the glass.
The Old Fashioned is also featured a lot on Mad Men, being the favourite cocktail of Don Draper. Regarding the Aperol cocktail I prefer the version with Campari, which is a slightly bitter and less fruity version of Aperol. But I'm a "bitter man": I add also some tonic water and its diluted quinine to the mix!
