No fooling! Berry-go-Round #26

Berry-go-Round #26, last month's gathering of botanical blogs, is up over at Gravity's Rainbow, and it couldn't be more nicely done. My particular favorite is the algal balls, but they appear to be declining as climate warms, and if that wasn't enough, your morning coffee might be in jeopardy due to global warming. If that doesn't incite some action, nothing much will. Most people fail to grasp the magnitude of the impact of global warming could have on agriculture, and how much that will affect everyone.

Got Any Botany Blogs?

The Botanical Society of America is now posting links to botanical blogs written by its members! The Phactor wonders who gave them that idea? And of course there are links to botanical news, essays about careers in botany, student essays about studying botany, a whole bunch of botanical images, in addition to the scientific stuff. Some of my readers may also be interested in the Planting Science program of connecting scientists to grade school students trying to design and conduct experiments on plants. Too bad botany continually gets the short end of the biological stick here in the USA.

Blog Centennial for the Phytophactor

With no fanfare what so ever the Phytophactor has passed his 100th blog. A bit over a year ago the Phytophactor was constructed as preventative medicine for mental health, and so far it’s working fine. According to my blog log, my blogging centennial,was passed a couple of blogs and a couple of weeks ago. Of course I didn’t get there in 100 days as other things, like having a life, have kept the frequency of new blogs modest. Blogging has not become an obsession, and I don’t waste time doing it when I should be doing something else. Blogging has been fun, and a chance to blow off steam in a relatively harmless manner, although I did manage to frost off a couple of colleagues who thought I was specifically referring to them. So did whoever called their attention to Phytophactor. I thought many of the zanier botanical and gardening tidbits would generate more comments from curious visitors. But this is now certain, an awful lot of people wanted to know if an artichoke is a fruit or a vegetable. The more esoteric topics, like why spoiled things are yucky, have generated no reaction at all which makes me think something is rotten out there. Even posting pictures of pretty flowers failed to excite readers, with one exception, the lovely Holly. Sigh.

So the Phactor is glad he’s doing this largely for himself because while the feedback has been positive, it’s been minimal. Let's see now how those congratulations pour in.

Top 100 Botanical Blogs

The Phytophactor has to thank those lovely people at the Online College Blog for posting the Top 100 Botanical Blogs. Yes, these are the sites that put the log in blog. There so many sites here for plant lovers to wallow in that their productivity, social life, and family values will be reduced to nil. What? Of course plant people have social lives! What do you think the birds and bees are all about if not pollination?

Of course the primary reason the Phactor is calling this to your attention is because the Phytophactor is number 20, one of the experts, which is as it should be! Actually modesty prevents me from suggesting a category for myself, the experts' expert, but perhaps this will get corrected the next time around. I'm sure they just didn't know.
