Taxonomic poetry

Thalictrum and Cimicifuga,
married for life:
“I love your filigreed purply curls.”
“I love your pompous white spikes.”

Look at them swaying there out in the wind,
bowed by the nastiest weather:
always reverting to genus
and always together.
